First-generation student success matters to Ohio State

The Buckeyes First initiative aligns with the university’s mission of preparing a diverse student body to be leaders and engaged citizens. We understand the value in providing access, information and education to students who identify as first-generation students.

We support all students in reaching their fullest potential by equipping them with the skills and resources necessary to eliminate any barriers to their success.

The goal of the Buckeyes First program is to support first-generation student success. The academic year support for Buckeyes First early arrival program participants allows for:

continuous promotion of a campus culture that values the diversity that all of our students bring
cultivating an awareness and pride around first generation student culture
providing a comprehensive support network for first generation students that begins with pre-college initiatives and extends to future alumni engagement/support
